Johannes Hassebroeck

Johannes Hassebroeck, SS-Sturmbannführer, born July 11, 1910 in Halle, Kommandant of Gross Rosen concentration camp, SS officer at Esterwegen and Sachsenhausen concentration camps, winner of the Iron Cross 1st Class, sentenced to death for war crimes, sentence commuted, released from prison in 1954, died at Westernstede on April 17, 1977, said of the caliber of SS officers: “We were the best and the toughest.”  (2000 Quotations from Hitler’s Thousand Year Reich)
